MICROELECTRONIC CIRCUITS: ANALYSIS AND DESIGN combines a "breadth-first" approach to teaching electronics with a strong emphasis on electronics design and simulation. Professor Rashid first introduces students to the general characteristics of circuits (ICs) to prepare them for the use of circuit design and analysis techniques. He then moves on to a more detailed study of devices and circuits and how they operate within ICs. This approach makes the text easily adaptable to both one- and two-term electronics courses. Student's gain a strong systems perspective, and can readily fill in device-level detail as the course (and their job) requires. In addition, Rashid, author of five successful texts on PSpice and power electronics, directly addresses student's needs for applying theory to real-world design problems by mastering the use of PSpice for testing and verifying their designs. More than 50% of the problems and examples in the text concentrate on design, with PSpice used extensively in the design problems.

"The approach used throughout the book is simply outstanding. The excellent example problems presented in this textbook is what sets it apart from all the others." - Ezzat G. Bakhoum, University of West Florida

Numerical, graphical, and factual errors galore
By Karl Becker
This is a first edition, and it shows. There are many, many errors throughout the portion of the book we studied in class. Some errors were pointed out by our teacher, while still more were uncovered by students attempting homework.
One particular homework assignment featured an error in each of the five problems assigned; either an incorrect solution in the back of the book or an error in the problem statement in the book. I cannot believe this book got published with so many errors!
If the book's reading were interesting, lively, engaging, or at least practical & informative, I could give this book a higher rating. Unfortunately, I cannot. Though the subjects covered in an introductory electronics course are very interesting and can even be fun, Rashid has attempted to eliminate any curiosity and fun from this book.
The author keeps on introducing more equations and variables without taking a moment to digress and casually discuss what we're actually dealing with. I found my circuits book, which covers more boring, dry topics, to be more interesting than this book.
Many times, variables and terms are used without any prior introduction - I know, because I read the entire first four chapters before giving up on this book and paying more attention to my notes and instinct.
A student's experience with a professor can usually color opinion about a textbook, good or bad, but even my electronics teacher told the entire class this book was poorly done; he's switching to a different book next semester. I do not recommend this first edition by Rashid; unfortunately, it's necessary if it's required for the course you're taking. Try to convince your professor to somehow change the book used.

Excellent Introduction
By johare4
This book is notable in its integration of ABET criteria for design content into its text. It also integrates SPICE very well. The entry to the subject is careful to build context, explaining the role of signals and signal processing, and how the processing of signals leads to circuits. It also is careful to emphasize the design process and how it is related to SPICE and to analysis methods.
There are some sources of confusion, for example, Fig. 2.17(b) and Fig. 2.18(b) contain circuit elements pertaining to reverse bias of a diode that are never explained, including a diode symbol never introduced or explained. The discussion of a peak detector as a demodulator employs a series connection of voltage sources (p. 119) instead of a multiplication of the modulating and carrier waveforms.
Overall, an excellent introduction, more modern and much better at context and motivation than most.

poor quality
By A Customer
I find this book very confusing. The fact that it has no website that I can find for revisions even makes it worse. The answers in the back of the book are for the most part incorrect. Information is missing on various problems. It uses way too many variables without enough description of what they actually are. Poor quality text. The only good thing about the book is the pspice integration.
