I adore the author

Any student who is taking analysis/advanced calculus course should read chapter 2 of this book, especially if he is confused or is struggling on the excellent but relatively abstract/concise texts of Rudin, Apostal, Bartle, Marsden et al. I've never seen a book which can explain the concept of Jacobian and Inplicit function theory in such a clear way!!

great for engineering and non-theoretical science majors

I learned from this book during my sophomore year advanced calculus class. The best thing about this book -- answers to all the problems are included. What a novel idea -- answers! I can't speak for others, but I can still remember doing problem after problem from this book and knowing that I could always check my understanding, or lack understanding, of the material by checking my work against the answers.

As to why do I think this book is for engineers and non-theoretical science majors? Very simple, it does *not* cover real analysis as the books by Rudin, Shilov or Johnsonbaugh and Pfaffenberger (my favorite). These other books follow a very traditional approach -- axioms, lemmas, theorems, corollaries. Kaplan's book presents all the mathematics that an engineer, etc. will typically need and with a clear explanation. You won't find delta-epsilon proofs here, but you will find multi-variate calculus, vector differential and integral calculus, orthogonal functions and expansions (Fourier series), complex variables, and ODEs and PDEs. Everything is covered. The explanations are generally very good. There are examples, and of course, answers to the problems are included.

You can think of this book as a Schaum's Outline on Advanced Calculus, but with real explanations, not just statements. I'm not knocking Schaum's Outlines. I own several of them.

great didatic

I study this book entirely in a calculus review. The points are:
1- The exposition is clear and didatic even in points difficults and delicates
2- The sections are short and with exercises in growing level of dificulty with much adequates hints
3- It's necessary to resolve all (or half all) exercises because there are many new stuff there
4- There are responses to all exercises with is good for self study (like mine)
5- There are very litlle typos
6- My only question is that the book would have more exercises
(I supply this doing exercises of other books like M.Boas)
So I recommend this book based in my (good) experience

Outstanding Book, I have learn so much information regarding the Diesel Engine, very technical yet, easy for a begginer to follow;This book cover most of the Diesel manufactures including the most dominant at my work the Detroit Diesel Series 50.

In some instances some of the more season mechanics have thumb throu and found answers to their questions.

Most of all my book arrived three days after placing the order. my next one will be HEAVY DUTY TRUCK SYSTEMS.

Needs an editor

The book contains a lot of good technical information about RouterOS. The author bio would lead you to think it was written by an American author. It is obviously written by someone that has English as a second language. I don't think I have ever read a book that had as many grammatical errors. The publisher should pay a good editor to clean up the grammar.

This third book in the IFICS series doesn't disappoint. Kaitlyn continues to learn about humanity and how to blend in as well as becoming a better super-soldier fighting crime. In this book, Kaitlyn goes outside of her "assigned cases" and finds a personal connection to a local serial killer attacking teen girls. As Kaitlyn puts herself in the line of danger as a target, she will need to fight the clock to save the Dollhouse Killer's next victim.

The writing is riveting and you will have a hard time putting this one down. The plot is thick with suspense and so much fun to read. I was sad when it came to an end, but I look forward to future tales from Kaitlyn's life.

Sooooo suspenseful! Loved it!

Wow!!! Edge of your seat thrilling ride! This is the first book I have read of Julia Cranes and it was an absolute pleasure! I read each page just wondering what was going to happen with the Dollhouse Killer. Kaitlyn is a mastermind with a special talent. Not only do we hear her views, but we also hear the murderers pov. As the story unfolds you are sucked in and hooked. I read this in one sitting. I could not put it down. I will definitely read more from this author!

I can't get enough! This series has an awesome story line that keeps me hooked page after page. In this 3rd book Kaitlyn continues to grow into herself and embrace her enhancements while at the same time learning who she is as a human. This series is interesting and refreshing. There is an obvious bond and love between Kaitlyn and Lucas, but you are not bombarded by sappy or over sexualized interactions. I love the IFICS series and look forward to more.

Far from his best work

Compared to his more recent Revenger, this is a dud. Definitely a dire need for a good editor in the later third of the book. Lots of weird terminology, irrelevant scientific digressions, and uncharacteristic behavior by the characters. For example a character that just had an inner dialog about detesting someone turns around and volunteers to help him to the infirmary (contrived so he'd be out of the room when something else happened). How about 'not unguilty' as a strange double negative? Perhaps 'not innocent' would have been better? Or maybe just guilty? And of course planets are never encircled or surrounded, they are 'englobed.' Yup. Also sense defying alliterations just to get the sound of them. And, finally there were obviously sections removed by some editor, because a couple of scenes highlight information that is NOT present in the book.

Not quite House of Suns but still a great read

The setting is a bit like the dystopia from which springs an advanced post-human civilization. It's fantastical but still gritty and, as is the case with House of Suns, mostly restricted by the rule of physics. There are themes of transhumanism and truly alien entities, but no one is traveling faster than the speed of light and the Reynolds gives grounded explanations of the more important technologies. The plot is grander than it appears at first glance and spans long stretches of time (though not the mind-boggling spans found in House of Suns), and the characters are compelling if, ultimately, not completely fleshed out.

If you like Reynolds, you'll like Revelation Space.

Ocassionally flawed, but very much enjoyable

While I found the first quarter of this novel quite hard to get into, after the initial confusion as to the purpose of what I was reading and the slight headache of adapting to mr. Reynold's style, I began to be so engrossed into the story, that I was hardly able to put the book down.

The slight annoyance that the first truly inciting incident, in my opinion, that pertains to the actual main plot, happened over 100 pages in, was quickly forgotten as one intriguing thing after another kept propelling me deeper and deeper into the story.

Without rehashing the plot or the main ideas that fed this fascinating space opera, let me just say that the many tiny threads of this tapestry come together beautifully, making perfect sense, no single loose end left dangling, no curiosity unsatisfied, and no thirst unquenched.

The resolution is highly gratifying, and measures up to the mounting tension. And if you enjoy a bit of hard science-fiction, Reynold's love of explaining things in detail, without ever getting info-dumpy, will fully satisfy as well. The intriguing main character, Dan Sylveste, and the equally interesting cast converging on him, are suitable vessels to explore the vastness of Reynold's imagination. And the grand setting he created for them to act against is truly unforgettable.

All in all, a very recommendable novel, especially for pretentious readers. Not so well suited for impatient readers looking for immediate, effortless satisfaction.

An excellent guideline to clinical acid-base physiology

Using patient-based problem solving, this text makes even the most difficult points of acid-base physiology clear. The writing style is breezy and entertaining and the layout allows you to pop in and out of various sections without the need to start from scratch. I have used the text for teaching medical students, residents and physician assistants. There is something in here for everyone. The authors' philosophy is obviously that acid-base problems are giant jig-saw puzzles and that you might as well have fun while working them.

The best text on integrative physiology out there

This is probably one of the best textbooks on integrative physiology involving electrolytes on the market. Dr. Halperin is a phenomenal instructor and his prose makes learning interactive and interesting. Electrolytes are key to clinical medicine and surprisingly not very well understood by the medical masses. This textbook is full of examples, questions, and pearls.

The abundance of questions with thorough explanations is the strength of this book. An understanding of electolytes including urine electrolytes will be gained from the study of this text.

The target audience is really the physician with an already good grounding in acid-base disorders. It will allow one to build on past knowledge and to solidy any foundation that has already been established. I am really and truly impressed with this book and I refer to it often.

One of the best textbooks that I went to bought instead of rented!!

I went into the course that uses this book with very low expectations. However this book wowed me!! It may look boring but the authors 'spoke' in a way that even people who have trouble with compression (I do) will understand. I learned so much from this book andI wish I could give it 10 stars. Although there is a lot to read, it's definitely worth it!!
