Essential collection of a great American poet

W. C. Williams's poems are about as important to modern American poetry as the Rocky Mountains are to the American contintent: you can't get around them. As the reviews here indicate, he's still not to everyone's taste, but his influence is enormous, largely defining great areas of subsequent American verse (most of which however in my opinion isn't nearly as good as Williams himself.) If you are at all seriously interested in modern American poetry, you should have this collection in your library.

I get this feeling...

that this author was either funded by or worked for the fossil fuel industry. I'll get to that after I go over what I liked about the book.

There is a lot of information about the spectrum of energy production in the US. The topics include (I'll just list the chapter titles)

1. Energy Concepts, Forms, Laws

2. Petroleum

3. Natural Gas

4. Coal

5. Gaseous and Liquid Fuels from Coal

6. Fuels from Oil Shale, Tar Sands, Biomass, Waste

7. Fossil Fuel Reserves Versus Consumption

8. Electric Power

9. Nuclear Energy

10. Solar Energy

11. Other Sources of Energy for Electric Power Generation

12. Energy Storage

13. Energy Use in Agriculture

14. Energy Use in Transportation

15. Pollution of the Atmosphere from Energy Use

16. Energy Conservation

17. Energy Supply for the Future

What I really enjoyed were the numbers that were given. Those make the time I spent reading this book worth it, but I wouldn't pay for this book. That is, I would be happy to get this book out from the library (again), but I would not spend any money to look at this book.

Now to why I think this book is tainted...

The first red flag was, keeping in mind that this book was full of statistics, that there is no mention of fossil fuel subsidies! (2006 subsidies were about $15 billion... that's a HUGE number to ignore!) Next, the book basically says global warming is a complete fluke, and then goes on to only focus on the Northern Hemisphere (ie, not GLOBAL warming); I would have thought that someone who specialized in energy would not have been ignorant on global warming in 1999. Lastly, some of the analysis seemed very much off and biased... here's an example...

"[2000-pound-class vehicle] are very unsafe on highways where most vehicles are much heavier... It would be difficult, even impossible, for the elected legislators to impose such a weight reduction against the wishes of their constituents. Furthermore, from safety considerations, informed legislators would not impose such safety hazards on their constituents." -page 346

The above quotation essentially summarizes what he says on the topic repeatedly in the book -- that people who are concerned about safety should drive large vehicles and those that don't are just asking to get hurt. There are a few problems with Wiser's analysis. First off, isn't there a government concern about those people in the small cars? Second, in his scenario he ignores the fact that vehicle weight would be lower, meaning it would be safer for smaller vehicles (and not substantially more dangerous for the larger ones in the accident). Third, he NEVER mentions the rollover dangers of large vehicles, which was a major concern at the time of the book's writing.

This repitition of the dangers of small cars and negligence in not mentioning the issues above is ludicrous. Wiser takes a very irresponsible perspective on this topic.

If it was just one topic when Wiser aired on the side of the fossil fuel industry or just 50% of the time, I would not be questioning the spirit of the book. However, it seemed whenever there was an opportunity for Wiser to comment, it was either neutral or in favor of the fossil fuel industry. Even when a comment seemed unwelcome, Wiser was there with (occasionally negligent) commentary. Also, don't be fooled by the conservation chapter -- it was pretty much worthless relative to most websites on energy conservation.

On top of this, the book is outdated. "Cost competitive" of the year 1999 means nothing to today's high energy prices, both oil and electricity, meaning a lot of the cost comparison in this book are useless.

Basically, this book is, at best, outdated, and, at worst, corrupted. Look elsewhere unless you can get your hands on this book for free (and even then, be warned about the apparent bias).

Many Lovely Poems

This book was a purchase well made! I enjoyed reading many of the poems. Most of the work is short, simple, yet hauntingly beautiful and I felt myself really connecting with some of the poems. The reason I am knocking down one star is because although many of the poetry was powerful and evocative, there were a few poems in there that kind of made me scratch my head and wonder how I went from one lovely poem on one page then turn the page to read something such as:

"He makes me blush! He makes me want to brush and floss!" Girl, I hope he doesn't have a nasty mouth to make you want to clean your own.

In all seriousness though, it just felt like the author did not put as much thought into some poems that they lacked the same depth and maturity as the others. Some of these shallow poems did have potential though. Don't get me wrong, I was still able to very much enjoy this book. The thoughtful, well written poems make this book worth the buy! And I must also mention, the included artwork is delightful!

You have probably seen tidbits of Lang Leav's "Love and Misadventure" somewhere out there on the internet, and if you're like me- trust me when I say that you won't be disappointed. Leav's poetry really has the reader connect with the poet and vice versa. She says all that she needs to say and she does it simply and beautifully. There are no hard to comprehend words nor concepts, and most of her poems are short though strong in emotion. I had been waiting forever to get her book, and although it took me awhile I finally did so early in the month of May. I read most of her poems the very day I received the book. If you're looking into buying this book... just know that its title tells you exactly what you are to expect and that Lang Leav does a wonderful job in writing poetry , expressing herself, and connecting with you.

The perfect book to read in your bathtub with a glass of wine and a piece of dark chocolate. When I get in my sulky moods this is especially great. Beautiful and simple poems, well organized, and not all that abstract yet they can get you thinking. I look forward to buying more from this author because she thinks the way I do. Miss Leav, I am a huge fan. The illustrations are a nice addition too. ( Side Note: I am a 21 y/o female)

"HIS COVERS ARE SO GOOD, IT'S CRIMINAL!" - Selina Kyle

With praises from Wonder Woman, Catwoman and almost Theodore Roosevelt, how can this book be bad?

This 208-page hardcover is filled with beautiful illustrations, each reprinted full page on low gloss paper. Nice. Additionally, there are also pencil sketches and layout that look and feel as good. And every cover comes with insightful commentary from Adam Hughes, so you can find out which is his favourite cover or who's his disliked superhero. Besides the paintings, there are also pictures of figurines and other merchandise created for these characters. Cool.

The main characters for this art book are Wonder Woman and Catwoman, occasionally other superheroes from DC (and only DC) as well. The paintings are gorgeous and glorious. The colours, stylized rendering, glow, and the looks on the faces are all so alluring.

My favourite, among other favourites, is the mugshot of Catwoman, with tears mixed with eye shadow streaming down her cheeks. I like the fact that each cover reveals a bit of the personality and story subtly.

Cover Run is a wonderful collection of quality covers.

Highly recommended to fans, collectors and artists.

Curse you, Adam Hughes!

Adam Hughes is a better artist than you. Adam Hughes is a better artist than me. Adam Hughes is depressingly, embarrassingly good, and he's making everyone else look bad.

Adam Hughes must be stopped.

So don't any of you buy this book! If you buy this book, Adam Hughes might know how good he is. He might keep drawing, and he might even, (through some dastardly witchcraft,) become EVEN BETTER. And then I might have to kill myself. So don't any of you buy this book!

Since none of you will be buying this book, because I told you not to... I'll let you know what you're missing.

The first 25 pages showcase some of Hughes' earlier work, from the late `80s to early `90s. The largest section of the book, at about 75 pages, is dedicated to his Wonder Woman covers. Then there're about 50 pages of Catwoman covers, followed by 50-ish pages of miscellany (some Superman/fam, Rose & Thorn, Gen13, JLA, Teen Titans, Power Girl, and Batwoman). This is interspersed with a few double-page spotlights on his merchandise-design work (busts, statues, and posters/t-shirts). All sections include sketches, preliminary thumbnails, and commentary, so you get an idea of how the artist works.

This is not a complete sampling of Hughes' work: as the title indicates, only the stuff he's done for DC is represented here. So unfortunately, that means no Tomb Raider, no Red Sonja, no Star Wars, no Marvel characters. The book can't really be faulted for this: it delivers exactly what's promised on the cover. But here's hoping Hughes' will get the chance to publish more collections.

I mean..! Curse you, Adam Hughes!

THEY LIVE!!!!

Today isn't that hard to make beautiful illustrations. With the help of the correct software almost any artist can deliver realistic portraits and landscapes.

So although all works delivered by Adam Hughes are astonishingly beautiful in form, that's not what's impressive in them.

AH imagines scenes that turn fantasy characters in real figures, real persons. The relaxation seen in Power Girl's face when she's flying on her back, it's the same as anyone leisurely swimming. The pain and shame of Selina Kyle being mugshoted in the police precinct is the same as any master criminal would feel being caught. The mix of boredom and despair on Superman face while Lois Lane interviews Wonder Woman is fabulous! The terrifying madness of thorn is palpable. The "I am a goner" look of the pilot seeing WW flying toward him!

Each of AH works is a masterpiece with hidden meanings, secret stories and infinite drama, joy, pleasure or pain...and frequently with loads of humor.

Adam Hughes may be slow to deliver, but he knows his weakness. We, his public, know his strengths.

Keep up with the good job Dr. Frankenstein (yes, this is for you AH)...like him, you also created life from characters that don't exist.

Heartland -a must have for any midwesterner

My son absolutely loves this book, the illustrations are gorgeous and it is written like a long beautiful poem. The rhythm lulls my son to sleep.
"I am the Heartland,
Shaped and lined
By rivers, great and small, that wind
Past farms, whose barns and silos stand
Like treasures in my fertile land."
My son is fascinated by tractors and anything that has to do with farms so this book has definately been a hit with him.

This is one of my favorite children's books of all time. I was born and raised in the midwest and this book always reminds me of my roots. It also has great pictures. A great present for any child.

Spare Beauty

We all need these poems. While other writers glorify our “just war” and forget our country’s misdeeds, Kaneko writes of their lasting effects combined with resilience and humor.

These poems achieve the spare beauty of Kaneko’s stoicism in response to the injustice and shame of internment. They witness to life in the Minidoka camp in Idaho as they “rope / the quiet progress of [families’] lives / against the ache that gnaws deep.” I find the child’s-eye views by this poet whose preschool years were spent in the camp especially heart-breaking.

This collection doesn’t leave readers in that “barbed corral” where lightning “rips the Idaho sky as we struggle / through dust or snow or rain to pee,” or with the cry of “an ordinary man who feels his son’s / fear half a world away.” Instead, among poems of hardships after the war is a delightful whirling portrait of “Bad Knees Harry: Japanese Gardner” in his “flurry of motion / guaranteed to look like action / worth $2.50 an hour.” There are baseball poems, tributes and portraits that capture a variety of voices, meditations, love poems, quirky observations such as “The Pig and I,” a collaboration with a painter, a choreopoem, and my favorite, the jazzy “Lee Siu Long: Little Dragon Lee.”

Every poem in Lonny Kaneko’s Coming Home from Camp and Other Poems rewards the reader with its clarity and beauty.

A lovely and loving book of beautiful poems

I love this book. The poems speak clearly and evocatively of early experiences that have shaped the writers life and the many Japanese Americans who were unjustly held in concentration camps during WW2. His words brush a canvas with moving images. Mr. Kaneko is able to describe the way those close to him were effected for a lifetime. His other poems are equally emotionally accessible. This is a lovely tribute and should be read and reread.

I feel incredibly blessed to have stumbled upon this book, this author, and the Vigilant Christian series. I cannot express enough gratitude for the joy of having found it. It thoroughly answered so many of my questions about the NWO and its many fronts. Between YouTube videos, Google, and other media and news sources, this type of research (re: secret societies, conspiracies, etc.) easily becomes so overwhelming it can seem an impossible task. However, this book offers a unique perspective which is grounded in research, fueled by the author's faith, and guided by a spirit that is not out to alarm, frighten or divide people, but a spirit of wisdom, understanding, knowledge, and charity (the Holy Spirit)! Please, please read this book and share it with as many people as possible!

The author does an excellent job of exposing the elite that are running the world. Almost half of every page shows where he got his information so that you can verify what he says. If you haven't read any other books on this subject, this is a good starting place.

First of all, I want to enthusiastically recommend these books to Christians and non-Christians alike. David has devoted many years of scholarship, hard work, and great personal sacrifice (monetary, physical, and emotional) to expose the agenda of the power elite--not the 1% but those at the top of the power pyramid, a small fraction of the 1% perhaps as few as .0001% who control the 1% in their quest to control the other 99%.

VC I provides compelling evidence that the New World Order exists, VCII exposes the misinformation and omissions by those that have written our history (i.e. "the gatekeepers" who wish to keep us unaware of the truth) and explores the hidden reasons nuclear weapons were used against Japan. VC III shows how the NWO has perverted spiritual truths of the ages to help attain their goal for a one-world government and religion. VC IV explores little known facts about 911 that add important information to the excellent work of Richard Gage, David Ray Griffin and others in the Truth movement. VC V makes recommendations how one can best manage personal resources in the current precarious economic environment. Of particular interest is Appendix C which discusses the formation of the Federal Reserve by the "money trust". The series of books, taken as a whole, convincingly demonstrates how the NWO agenda, if successful, will irrevocably impact our lives for the worst.

Simply put, I love this book. Being a Christian and not buying in to the wars and false flag attacks which we are being sold has made me feel conflicted, as sometimes the Bible study I go to would have people advocating war against Islam and my church has people who believe Israel has a divine right to brutalize its neighbors. Or the idea that we are being lied to about 9/11 makes me a nut. I am glad that this book so eloquently states the case for truly living as Jesus preached we should and not being afraid of the truth which will set us free.

About the Author
Dave Dionisi is the founder of the Teach Peace Foundation. He leads peace education programs and acts of kindness in the United States and around the world. Dave's experience includes service as a senior executive with MetLife, DirectAdvice, and New England Financial. Prior to working in corporate America, Dave served the country as an Army Intelligence Officer. His business and military experiences over the last 30 years are complemented by an extensive background as an international volunteer in Asia, Central America, Europe, and Africa. In 2008, Dave was presented with the Martin Luther King Jr. Outstanding International Peace Leader award for his work helping orphans and poor children in West Africa. In 2010, he received the St. Anthony of Padua Parent and Teacher Association Award. In 2013, his work with the disabled resulted in the Mission of Hope for the Disabled Award. In 2014 he was presented with the St. Francis of Assisi Award for founding Liberia Mission. Finally an accurate history with a Christian perspective

Simply put, I love this book. Or the idea that we are being lied to about 9/11 makes me a nut. I am glad that this book so eloquently states the case for truly living as Jesus preached we should and not being afraid of the truth which will set us free. The book is dedicated to William Guy Carr's 1954 `Pawns in the Game' one of the first that clued me in to the NWO.

I am ordering the other books in this series. Whether you are a Christian or not you will find the revelations in this book compelling. The author also preaches a message of love for all people of different faiths and even no faiths, saying we are not to judge and that Truth can come from anyone, you never know who will speak Love.

Excellent and Provocative

Dare to tell the truth and watch the world become educated about the realities of what is going on. Dave Dionisi did a great job with this book and clearly illustrates that there really is a man behind the curtain pulling the levers. St. Augustine said, "Often the first reaction to truth is anger." Prepared to get angry. Great job Mr. Dionisi.

Societal implications of secret societies

History is full of secret societies but why does an elite group band together to operate in secret? One reason that readily comes to mind is that they have their own secret agenda which may not be to the benefit of other groups of people and would be strongly disapproved of if exposed to the light. How does a secret society acquire power and keep secret? One method that comes to mind is to make any notion that a secret society exists seem like a foolish "consipracy theory". So it is with the existence of the New World Order (a term that can be shown in a quick internet search to have been spoken about by very powerful people such as American Presidents and International Banking elites). If the reader is open to the hypothesis that the New World Order likely exists and works very hard to shape human history, having great impact on all our daily lives, then this book offers concrete historical evidence of the likely truth of that hypothesis and the potential harmful consequences of the NWO continuing to operate in secret to maximize its power, wealth and influence.
