Excellent Reading with Good Illustrations of the Theories

Prerequisites: Knowledge in Electricity and magnetism, Quantum Mechanics, optics and semiconductor physics. Math: Pre-calculus or preferably calculus. This book is definitely an upper division engineering reading. The theories of photovoltaics are explained quite well from the semiconductor level to applying it at this system level. The author quantifies the theories such that the designer can optimize and validate his or her work. The only drawback of this book, it did not give examples of calculations of the important equations and it was written mostly for Australia in mind. Although, the book did illustrate many pictures and graphs to help the user to get a relatively good feeling of the theories presented. This book is purely technical and does not discuss some of the other issues pertaining in connecting solar to the grid especially here in the USA. I gave the book 4 stars as it is excellent reading and gave relevant illustrations, however, it lacked sample calculations to better validate its theories.

I was looking for a textbook/reference on solar panels, not semiconductor physics of PN junction. This book was the closest thing.

This book contains a lot of information beyond semiconductor physics. Yes, it has a chapter on PN junctions/photodiodes, it explains just enough to understand how the cells work, and presents the important IV equations.

What I like about the book is that it gives lots of information on array sizing, construction of solar panels, and real issues about solar panels.

I recommend it as an intermediate textbook, or a reference.

Not all Dickens writings are what you think they are cracked up to be.

Aughhhh, another Charles Diskens book I couldn't wait to put down. It tried my patience to the ends. Long, stretched out, over dialogued...I simply forced myself to finish this book. I love Dickens when he's on, but my bucket list to read all of his books may turn out to be part torture.

Steven D. Jaffe serves as Director of Product Marketing for a commercial airplane manufacturer, with expertise in commercial airspace and operational efficiency solutions. His responsibilities have included the implementation of commercial air traffic efficiency initiatives and the evaluation of their impact on air traffic flow efficiency improvements. Previously, at the Federal Aviation Administration, Mr. Jaffe directed the development of strategic recommendations to the Air Traffic Organization’s executive management team for streamlining air traffic infrastructure and processes. At US Airways, Mr. Jaffe managed the evaluation of enterprise-wide initiatives for generating operational efficiencies and achieving strategic imperatives. He received a Masters in Geography from Rutgers University and an MBA from George Washington University.

Not just man-bashing!

When I read the opening sample paragraph I thought this was going to be another feminist man-bashing piece. Fortunately I was wrong. Fundamentally it seems society conditions school girls and women to be more sensitive than boys/men to what others think about them. So whereas geek boys get lost in computers and are not too bothered that tech is seen as uncool by many of their peers, and perhaps makes them loners, girls do worry what others think and how it will affect their place in their social network.
The book proposes a number of ways of how this can be changed. For example, school curricula could better reflect the diversity and creativity that is in the tech industry, rather than presenting IT as just secretarial Excel processing - (exactly what a modern woman is trying to escape from!).
The book asks IT companies to go into their local schools to show that tech isn't boring, and encourages women already in tech to step forward and to act as roll models to he next generation on techies.

I wish I could review with a 6 star rating

Because I would certainly would. Once, started as a movie a heart wrenching gorgeous movie about how people can bond through music. Its a universal theme as people form affections through bond and love of something mutual. But this work of art took it to another level.

Now the book is pretty much the movie but with certain plot details added, a joke or two to make it smoother but the beauty, the core, the heart and the ultimate expressions of love are there.

Indeed the book and the movie complement each other, and music changes sligthly in the musical so you dont feel it like a movie turned musical automatically upon seeing it.

The ending is pretty much the same, they indeed dont end up together, you know they will do so in the future. Because they love each other, but they still have things to work out with their respective former loved ones. But they are not right for each other. The power is there, the strength of the movie is translated to the play, because when the guy tells the girl about being alone I was moved to tears for I felt his loneliness and when the girl tells him her true feeling in the shadow of her language I cried "Once" more because I felt her regret. The play is strong and stands for itself a an amazing work of beautiful art.

I'm NOT a reader. So for me to actually read this took a lot of internal motivation. I will admit, the book sucks. I mean, me reading the book to myself sucks. But the story is just incredible, and the show is even better. If you've not seen ONCE, you need to see it at least TWICE. It's one of the most intimate theatrical experiences you'll ever have. If a group of actors showed up to my house on any night to read this to me, and I'd be OK with that.

Advertised book dimensions are incorrect but this is a small format book (6.5 x 7.75 inches), so many of the pictures are really small. As the title indicates this is a portfolio (pictures and a little more). Car brand and model are indicated below each picture. The book has an index with a comment about each picture. In my oppinion, a portfolio should have a bigger format.

I bought this book for my husband. It is a pretty good book but it only has pictures of the greatest cars in it. I was expecting some information about each of the cars. It also took forever to ship, almost a month. One of the longest shipments I have had through amazon

The world's greatest cars... in best places in the world!

I wondered evaluate to how many stars the book deserves, four or five? The size could be a problem, after all, a book edited primarily of images should be slightly larger. On second thought, never mind. It's as minimalist as could be. Okay, some cars that i love were not there, and probably yours also do not are. But it's amazing how all the other cars you love are there, how so? Even if you flip through few times, you need it. It's your list of the world's greatest cars in one book!
